Inspiration

The Dalai Lama´s vision:
"My dream is that Tibet will be a demilitarized peace zone. This would not only benefit the six million Tibetans in the world but also be the best guarantee for the avoidance of conflicts between India and China, the two most populated nations in the world. Tibet has never developed any big industries. Whether it’s an advantage or disadvantage, it’s a reality. Its nature is comparatively untouched. Because we have seen the disastrous effects of too much industrialization without regard for the environment we Tibetans have the possibility to plan more wisely. According to Chinese investigations Tibet has rich mineral resources. We will use these minerals but in such a way that nature will be caused as little harm as possible.

Dag Hammarskjöld – a world citizen
Dag Hammarskjöld was a cosmopolitan who was inspired from within himself in order to be in the world. He was Secretary of the UN from 1953 until his death in 1961 when he was killed in an air craft crash during a mission in Congo. During his time at the UN, he became known as a very efficient and goal orientated international peace negotiator. His engagement was to enable the UN, by looking after the interests of the small countries in relation to the big powers, to have the authority to use peacekeeping forces.

Jill Schröder, teacher at Enskilda gymnasiet:
"I started with the methods when I got a new class, 6th grade, with student from many different schools.
We practiced relaxation and stillness once a week. I asked the students to stretch out on the floor. Ten of the girls just laughed and thought it was ridiculous.
“If you don’t want to be here you can leave. You can go down to the park”, I said. Several of them left.
I started with the breathing, after 3-4 times everyone but two participated.
Today, all of my students think that it is very nice to be still.
The other week when we came out after having visited a museum, we learned that the busses were late and we would have to wait for 20 minutes. That’s usually a bad situation; the children get anxious and start fighting. I told my class, now we have 20 minutes to relax and meditate. The students sat down on the benches, closed their eyes and were still the whole time."
