Swedish NORWEGIAN

The seed was sown in 1996

The Dream of the Good has grown out of the non-violence project “The Dalai Lama’s Perspective” that was developed within the non-profit organization Det Andra/Dream of the Good. The Dalai Lama’s Perspective was implemented in secondary schools in Stockholm in cooperation with daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter and the City of Stockholm in the school year of 1995-96. The project culminated with 7,000 secondary students listening to the Dalai Lama in the Stockholm Globen Arena, in May 1996.

Activities during the past three years:
Our activities during the past years have mainly consisted in spreading The Dream of the Good pedagogy in Swedish schools and supporting the ongoing research on the methods included in it. Many TV- and radioprograms about the Dream of the good, and many feature articles in newpapers have helped make the project known.

Since 2010 about 200 resource persons have been trained and certified to teach the methods in school, to teachers as well as students.
Norrköping, has become a pilot municipality for The Dream of the Good.
Our methods have been studied in the research project Barn i balans (Children in balance, Yvonne Terjestam, University of Kalmar)
We have held several seminars in the Swedish Parliament (Barns rätt till hälsa (Childrens right to good health), 2004 and 2005, Kulturens betydelse för hälsan (The importance of culture for good health), January 28, 2009)
We have participated in the Preschool Biennial  with an extensive program of seminars and workshops (for the 4th time, University of Linköping).
Research and pilot activities in Norway (University of Tromsö)
More than 1,500 teachers have participated in seminars and/or trainings in one or more of The Dream of the Good methods.
Some form of activity has taken place at about 100 schools in Sweden.
In the municipalities of Norrköping and Oskarshamn an extensive pilot project involving The Dream of the Good is ongoing and spreading to more and more schools. New projects are under way in Norrköping, Oskarshamn, Vingåker, Västerås, Nacka (Sickla), Gävle and Askersund. Pilot activities are ongoing in Norway.
In the fall of 2009 the methodology was introduced in the US.

“Children and youngsters and
their parents, too, need time to
reflect and ground themselves
in order to handle the strain
and stress of today’s world. It is
important to under- stand that
the outer and inner worlds are
connected. Our ability to act
humanely in the world depends
largely on how we are feeling
inside. That’s why we need methods that make peace and quiet and reflection possible.” Anders Wijkman, EU parliamentarian
