OUR FOUR METHODS

The Dream of the Good offers simple meditation and mindfulness methods for wellbeing and peace for all levels of the school. The four methods: are stillness, peaceful touch, reflection and mindful movement as in qigong and yoga. They are ‘doors’ into what we call the Dream of the good namely our human potential. They are easy to learn and to do and to with the current curriculum. These ‘inexpensive’ tools are as much appreciated by the students as the teachers and are tailormade to suit different ages. Some of the exercises you can start right away and others you learn during short training courses.
As a teacher you yourself choose which ‘door’ you would like to enter. Start with the method you are most attracted to and seeming easy to you ! Which method you choose, decides the first steps, but all methods give results!

The four methods are Stillness, Peaceful touch, Reflection and Movement. Stillness comprising of simple visualisations are easy to do and much appreciated by the students of all ages, from pre- to high school. Peaceful touch uses simple massage techniques and Reflection uses so called life talks with e.g. a talking stick in a traditional mode (where you talk from within yourself and listen to the other). The fourth, the  Movement door invites to contemplative bodily movement, like in walking mindfully, qigong and yoga.

Stillness
If you choose Stillness, you will find different simple meditation- and mindfulness methods here which are well suited for the classroom and whose efficiency is well proven through scientific research.

Such a theme could be: What is the meaning of Life? In our films from Dream of the good, you find an excellent inspiration for a life talk both for students and teachers.
Here you find eductional material for different subjects, life mathematics or physics, which can be utilized in these life  talks.

Movement
If you enter into the Movement door you can try the walking excercise by the Vietnamese peacemaker Thich Nath Hanh. You can begin right away, without any previous training. The Yoga, and the Peace power- and Children’s qigong requires more training and work. We are happy to come to your school and demonstrate. If you are a teacher you can take a course to qualify to teach the methods in your school. For Yoga the course is two half days, for qigong it is four days altogether.

"The long-term sick leave has gone down radically. When we started with The Dream of the Good six years ago, 50% of the teachers were on long-term sick leave; today there is almost no one. The children are calm and healthy. I have a positive and committed staff. The working environment is positive, there’s peace and quiet and great pleasure in the work despite a heavy work load. We have active and committed parents. The parents want their children to be involved in the Dream of the Good methods, which create better conditions for both children and adults. The common objective is to feel safe and joyous, build genuine self-confidence and be part of the community."

Ann-Kristin Källström-Sundgren, principal of the preschools Armbandet and Kättsätter in Norrköping, Sweden

"To understand – through stillness. To act – from stillness. To win – in stillness."

Dag Hammarskjöld, General Secretary of the UN 1953-1961,from “Markings”.

"Imagine that you are a playing sea turtle and make its special shushing sound. The
sound “shu” is one of the classic healing sounds of Chinese medicine and is
considered to have a beneficial effect on the liver, blood and its circulation.
Furthermore, it is said to be good for the eyes and reduces anger and irritation. In
order for it to have the intended effect you have to empty your lungs completely on
exhale.
Another healing sound is “khyy”. From the instructions for Peace Power Qigong, one of the movement methods used by The Dream of the Good.
